Feather guide

Natural Luxury in Motion

Feathers embody the very expression of Yves Salomon elegance—delicate, poetic, and undeniably chic. Whether it's the sculptural drama of turkey feathers, the airy glamour of marabou, or the sumptuous texture of ostrich, our pieces transform feathers into wearable works of art. They float, vibrate, and elevate the silhouette with ethereal grace.

Types of Feathers & Know-How

Turkey Feathers

Providing volume and structure with remarkable strength, they are often used in our short and long jackets lined with light silk, combining refined texture and elegant presence.

Marabout

A fluffy, cloud-like ornament traditionally made from the underside of the marabou stork's tail, but now most commonly made from turkey down. It dyes beautifully and offers a luxurious alternative to fur.

Ostrich Feathers

Renowned for their length and vaporous lightness, they drape with unparalleled fluidity. Their delicate handling rewards every movement with sumptuous softness and an incomparable glamorous allure.

Each feather creation reflects artisanal mastery—from careful selection and precise alignment to careful hand-laying and assembly—ensuring an exquisite result for every garment.

Wisdom of Feathers: Science of Matter & Beauty

Feathers are composed primarily of keratin, with a complex structure of barbs and barbules providing both flexibility and visual depth. Their delicate anatomy makes them susceptible to abrasion, light, humidity, and improper care. Maintaining a balanced environment—controlled humidity, clean air, moderate temperature—is essential to preserving their perfection.

Care and Preservation Guide

Domestic washing to be avoided

Washing, bleaching, tumble drying, ironing, and dry cleaning are strictly prohibited for all feathered garments. If feathers are present, always take the item to a specialized cleaning center experienced in handling animal materials.

Daily Maintenance

Shake gently

To remove surface dust and restore natural volume to feathers.

Dusting with Care

Use a soft brush following the direction of the feathering—never against it and without forcing.

Ostrich Feathers
- if cleaning
is essential: wash each feather separately in warm water with a mild shampoo, shake gently, rinse and let air dry. Lightly steam iron to restore fluffiness, using only the driest setting on the steamer.

Restore Volume

Steam or a light mist of fresh air revives volume and suppleness. For ostriches, steam opens the beards; for marabou or turkeys, a simple, gentle shake or a gentle stream of fresh air is usually sufficient.

Storage & Display

Hang or lightly drape your pieces in a well-ventilated area to avoid crushing. Keep them away from direct light to prevent fading and embrittlement.

Avoid plastic covers: choose breathable covers to protect against dust and humidity without trapping air.

Handling & Protection

Feathers are extremely flammable and sensitive: keep them away from heat sources, open flames and pollutants.

Wear gloves when handling high-value feathered pieces to protect them from skin oils and accidental abrasions.

The Eternal Elegance of Feathers

To wear Yves Salomon feathers is to wear poetry in motion—luxurious, expressive, and vibrant. With careful care and expert handling, these exquisitely crafted pieces will continue to fascinate and enchant with their ethereal grace for many years to come.
